The relative formula mass of a substance is the mass (in grams) that one mole of that substance would be. For example, water, H2O has a relative formula mass of 18 and therefore 1 mole of water would have a mass of 18 grams. (H2O, 2 hydrogen atoms (2 x 1 = 2) and 1 oxygen atom (16), 2 = 16 = 18)
