Physics Words: Coal-fired power station

Simple Description

A power station that burns coal in order to generate electricity.

Further Detail

Coal is a non-renewable fossil fuel. Coal contains sulfur and carbon so burning it causes acid rain and global warming, two big environmental problems. In a coal-fired power station the heat from burning coal is used to turn water into steam, the steam then drives a turbine and the turbine is connected to a generator which then generates the electricity.
